Sweet Nothings
DongWan is the
playboy type. He befriends every girl he sees...though he seldom remember their names. Many girls fall for his trap...including
Meia.
"Do you have
your phone with you? I really have to make a call" Dongwan pleaded. He and Meia have been friends since elementary.
"Why? Girlfriend
emergencies?" Meia teased.
DongWan grinned.
Meia knows him really well just as he knows her.
"Jealous?" Dongwan
laughed.
"In your dreams!"
Meia laughed. "Hey, just make sure you wont clear out my load. I still have other guys to call, you know." she joked.
"Haha! I dont
believe you." He looked at her in the eyes. "Don't make me jealous." He winked at her.
Meia read her
pocketbook while waiting for DongWan.
"Um...lets grab
something to eat after school, okay? Thanks for the call. Ill go ahead." DongWan turned to leave but changed his mind.
"Have you heard
of the upcoming Festival? Lets go together, I bet it would be fun. "
"Sure. Just tell
me when we are going" she replied.
Beneath the Stars
Their school
decided to hold a Japanese Festivalthe one with booths and everything. The place is lighted with firefly bulbs which made
the scene more romantic. However, there seems to be no romance going on with our two friends
"Hey! Thats mine!"
Meia exclaimed. She looked pitiful as DongWan grabbed her piece of sushi.
"Just one! You
dont really need this in your body. Youre already fat."
"Hey, Im not
fat! Youre the one whos fat." Meia defended herself.
"Its not fat.
Its called muscles. Ever heard of it?" DongWan teased as he stole another piece.
"What could I
ever do with you?" Meia sighed.
"And what could
I ever do without you?" DongWan replied.
They decided
to walk around after a while. The moon is gazing solemnly from the sky. Everything was so romantic - from the swaying trees to the mellow lights. The wind blows softly as DongWan whispered
"Meia, lets make
a pact." DongWan smiled.
"What is it?"
Meia asked.
"We have been
friends for so longI want the two of us to be like this forever."
Meia looked at
him and smiled.
DongWan grinned.
"From now on, I promise that youll be the only girl Ill never court. So dont worry, youre safe from now on. Ill never hurt
you."
She was surprised with what he said.
She searched his face, only to see the sincerity in his eyes. She agreed though his words pierced her heart.
"Why did you
say thatI really wouldnt mind" she teased lightheartedly.
DongWan laughed.
"You're really a fool. Come on, Lets go. I saw the other guys nearby." He grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the crowd.
Hearts Alone
The night has
ended and she went home downtrodden. Tears fell from eyes as she whispered the few words her heart contains. "I thought you
know mebut you really dont know how I feel. You should have never said those words. You should have never..."she whispered
as she cried. All of her hopes on love fell crumpled. DongWan was the only guy she loved. She poured her life on him. She
closed her eyes as she cried herself to sleep.
So Time Passed...
Three months
have passed and so much has happened. DongWan had a new girlfriend whom hes very fond of and Meia received a 3-year scholarship
grant abroad
"So what do you
think? Should I accept it?" Meia asked while munching her snacks.
"I really don't
know. It's too long and I'll miss you." DongWan sighed.
"I'll not leave
if you ask me to."
"I really don't
know what to say. Its your decision." He replied sadly.
Meia smiled as
she nodded.
Time went like
a breeze and before she knew it, it was already past 4pm. She walked alone - rounding familiar streets that she and DongWan
used to pass. She stopped at her tracks as she saw him with Sha Le. They looked so happy, so contented and so much in love.
"Maybe it's better
if I leave. I have no reason to stay anyway." She lowered her eyes and continued walking. Tears were filling her eyes again.
All this time she thought she has already locked away her feelings for him. "I'll leave...I have to leave."
When Love Asks
DongWan drove
her to the airport. Her heart seems to stop. She looked at his face...he seems
to be worried...confused? "Will he stop me?" she asked herself.
They walked through
the endless line of people and luggage. People crying, laughing, excitedall sorts of human emotions seems to be present at
the moment.
"Were here."
DongWan said.
"2nd
call for the passengers of Flight 214, Flight 214..."
She looked up
to the speakers then back to him and nodded.
"I must be going"
she whispered.
He nodded.
"Be sure to call.
If there's any problem at all...I'll be there" Dongwan ensured.
"I don't want
to leave without telling this to you" she paused for a while. "I just want to tell you that I have always been in love with
you."
"I know." He
replied.
"So you know
that Im in love with youis that why you made that pact?" she asked hesitantly.
DongWan nodded.
"I just...I just
want to know. Have you ever loved me? Or felt that you somehow liked me?" Meia asked.
"Would you prefer
lies that make you smile or truth that makes you cry?" He asked.
"You don't have
to please me because I prefer the latter."
"I don't want to see you cry" DongWan
replied.
Autumn in My Heart
And so she
left.
Years later,
DongWan saw her with somebody else. They looked so happy. He asked himself if he has really done the right thing. He convinced
himself hard about it but somehow, theres a pang of regret in his heart. She has been with him through the ups and downs of
his life. He could still remember her laughter, her gay eyes sparkling every time they talk. She was his life. But then, whats
past is past. All he could ever do was to reminisce the memories they once had. He was not sure if it was love he felt back
then and was so afraid to make her crybut now he is. As he walked away, the autumn leaves in their faded crimson colors never
cease to fall.
